Authentic Philadelphia Cheesesteak Recipe
A recipe for the famous Philly Cheesesteak.
Here is the recipe for an authentic Philly cheesesteak. Excuse me for using Cheese Whiz, but this is the traditional cheese used in the sandwiches, of course I would choose provolone instead!! Enjoy

Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 medium onions, sliced as thin as possible and rings separated
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 12 ounces chipped steak thinly sliced or prepackaged frozen steak
- Salt and coarsely ground black pepper
- Cheese Whiz or provolone cheese slices
- 1 Italian, French or hoagie roll
Method
- * Freeze steak before sliced; slice it paper thin. Or use prepackaged frozen steak.
- In a large frying pan over high heat, add olive oil and heat so that a drop of water will sizzle when you drop it in the oil; lower heat to medium. Add steak slices and cook for 3 minutes or until meat lightly browns. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- In a separate pan, add olive oil and heat. Lower heat to medium and add onions and mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms and onion darken.
- Add mushroom and onion to the other pan with the steak slices.
- Combine cooked meat mixture in a long pile across pan, lay cheese slices over meat until melted. If using Cheese Whiz, melt in a double boiler or in the microwave.
- Slice bread lengthwise. Lay sliced bread on top of the combined steak and cheese. Using a spatula, scoop meat mixture and cheese onto the bread; turning the sandwich up right. If using melted Cheese Whiz, ladle it on top. Slice sandwich into 2.
Makes 2 servings.
