Fast Food Made Healthy: Homemade Burgers
A quick and simple recipe for delicious homemade burgers.
Serves 5
Total time: 75 minutes
What you will need:
500g of mince meat
1 onion
1 egg
Salt and pepper
Paprika, chilli powder
Burger buns
Flour
What to do:
1.Throw all the Mince into a large bowl, add roughly a tablespoon each of salt and pepper and two tablespoons each of paprika and chilli powder.
2.Dice the onion nice and fine, and throw it into the bowl. Crack the egg and do the same.
3. Mix everything together very thouroughly.
4. Here’s the fun part, now we shape them into burgers. To do this you first have to throw a bit of flour onto whatever surface you’ll be shaping the burgers on. Remove about a handful of the mixture from the bowl and shape it into a ball. Press down on the ball lightly until it forms a burger shape. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
5. Make sure the burgers are well floured and then throw them in the fridge for about half an hour. You can leave them in longer if you like, the reason for this is that they firm up in the fridge and are less likely to fall apart when you cook them.
6. Put some oil in the frying pan and turn it up to a high heat. Take the burgers out of the fridge and put them in the frying pan. After about 30 seconds in the frying pan you can reduce the heat to medium and give them 4-5 minutes on each side. The reason for the high heat at the beginning is because it allows the burgers to seal. Also try to only flip the burgers once or twice, if you keep at them they will probably fall to pieces. You could also do the burgers on a barbeque if you want. Just keep the bbq at a low heat and don’t flip the burgers too much.
7.After checking that the burgers are cooked thouroughly (inside should not be pink) then you’re good to go. Serve with buns cheese, lettuce, tomato etc. Good Luck!
