Hot Dog Recipe: Stuffed Hot Dogs with Cheese and Bacon

published by NaomiR on Oct 25, 2009

This hot dog recipe is easy to make, but transforms a great hot dog into an outstanding one. Serve stuffed hot dogs with french fries and a green salad.

INGREDIENTS

8 beef, chicken or turkey hot dogs

8 pieces of cheddar cheese, cut into long, thin strips

1 dill pickle

1/2 cup barbecue sauce

8 strips bacon

8 hot dog buns

Ketchup and mustard

DIRECTIONS

1. Grill the  hot dogs so that they’re cooked through, but not burnt. Cut a slit down the length of each hot dog.

2. Cut the ends off of the pickle and cut length-wise into 8 slivers.

3. Open up the slit in each hot dog and place a cheddar cheese strip and pickle sliver in the slit. Press them down to make sure that they’re all the way in and won’t fall out.

4. Brush a little barbecue sauce over the top of the slit of each dog.

5. Place the hot dogs in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees or until the cheese melts. You can also toast the buns in the oven during this time. Remove and let cool.

6. Fry the bacon slices; when finished, wrap a bacon slice around each hot dog. Place each bacon-wrapped hot dog in a bun. Serve with ketchup and mustard.
