Quick Pizza Buns
published by shanthu on Nov 8, 2009
A satisfying after-school or in-between-meal time snack. You may also like to add these buns to a main meal.
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 burger buns (approx 3 1/2)
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- Green chillies to taste, finely chopped
- 4 garlic cloves, crushed and chopped
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 4 large tomatoes, chopped
- 1 tablespoon tomato puree
- 1 tablespoon ketchup or tomato-chilli sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 tablespoons grated cheese
OPTIONAL ADD-ONS:
- Finely chopped capsicum
- Sliced mushrooms
- Olives
- Cooked, chopped chicken
- Ham
- Sausages or bacon
- Chopped pineapple
- Crumbled cottage cheese
METHOD:

- Slit the buns in half horizontally
- Put the oil in a shallow microwave-safe dish and heat at 100% power for 2 minutes.
- Drop in the onion, chillies and garlic, and continue to cook at the same power level for 2 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes, oregano, puree, ketchup. Cook uncovered at 100% power for 5 minutes stirring once. Add salt and pepper.
- Put some tomato mixture on each bun, sprinkle over the preferred add-ons and the grated cheese.
- Preheat the oven at MW + Grill (100% + Grill). Put the Crusty Plate in for 3-4 minutes.
- Lay the buns on it on the high rack and continue to cook till the cheese is melted and browned to your satisfaction, 5-7 minutes.
- If your oven does not have this facility, lay the buns on an ordinary microwave-safe plate and cook at 100% power for 4 minutes.
- You may also like to toast the buns lightly before spreading with the tomato mixture.
