John Montague the 4th Earl of Sandwich.

November third is Sandwich Day. Commemorates John Montague the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Named after the town of Sandwich, not after his creation. On his birthday November 3, 1718. The creator of the sandwich John Montague was rumored to be a bit of a gambler. One day in 1762, during a 24 hour gambling streak. This is were the story go astray. In one version he instructed a cook to prepare his food in such a way that it would not interfere with his game. The cook presented him with sliced meat between two pieces of toast. The other story is John Montague ordering two slices of meat between two pieces of bread. Thus inventing the Sandwich.

Which ever story happen. Sandwiches have come a long way since their creation. Look at 1,000’s of varieties of meats, cheeses, breads, and condiments. Truly our life has been enrich due to the sandwich. Can you imagine all the BLTs, club, Dagwood, grilled cheese, gyros, heroes, hoagies, hot roast beef (aka Commercials), Italian beef, Monte Cristo, muffulettas, panini, Philly cheese steak, po’boys, Reuben’s, sloppy Joes, and submarines we enjoy each year. Thank you John Montague the 4th Earl of Sandwich, Happy Birthday! I will have another sandwich in our honor, right now.
