Cheesy Snack Mix

published by Eden Emersen on Jul 12, 2008

If you like Cheddar Chex Mix, try this alternative.

My family loves the General Mills Cheddar Chex Snack Mix®. This recipe is our attempt to make it on our own to cut down on the cost.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of rice squares cereal
  • 3 cups of corn squares cereal
  • 1 cup of cheese crackers
  • 1 cup of oyster crackers
  • 1 cup of pretzels
  • 6 Tbsp butter or Smart Balance
  • 2 packets of powdered cheddar flavoring (which I got from purchasing boxed macaroni and cheese and then adding Velveeta to the macaroni, saving the packets)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 250E.
  2. In a very large pan, pour the cereal, crackers, and pretzels.
  3. Melt the butter and pour it evenly over the dry ingredients.
  4. Then add the cheese powder.
  5. Stir every 15 minutes and bake for 1 hour.

While this is not as great as General Mills’ Cheddar Chex Mix, we like it better than other homemade flavors. Hope you’ll like it also.
