Time to Snack: SAGO SABUDANA VADAS

published by tiku on Jan 11, 2009

This sago recipe is my favorite and is a hit at all snack time get together meets. It is crispy full of flavor and for all those vegetarian out there this snack is a ‘must eat’.

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed
  • 1/2 cup sabudana (sago)
  • Water
  • 1 large onion chopped very fine
  • 2 green chilies chopped very fine
  • 2″ piece of ginger grated
  • 1/4 cup peanuts roasted and crushed coarsely
  • 1 tsp raw mango powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander-1/2 cup chopped
  • Oil for deep frying

Method

Soak the sabudana (sago) overnight. One should wash it warm water, drain the water and cover the sago .It will puff up and become translucent. If it is a bit dry one can sprinkle a little water on it and separate it with fingers.

Mix the sago with all the other ingredients and form dough like batter.

Add salt to taste.

Make small size balls and flatten them to form patties.

Heat oil in a wok.

Add these patties and deep fry on slow heat till they turn golden brown from both sides.

Take out and drain them on paper towel.

Serve with tomato ketchup or mint sauce.
