A Poor Man’s Perfect Pie Recipe

Yummy and Free Recipes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 8 inch unbaked pie shell
  • 1/2 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 3/4 cup of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 6 teaspoons butter
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 well beaten eggs

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Combine the bread crumbs, flour, baking powder, sugar and spices.  Cut in the butter until crumbling.  Dissolve soda in boiling water.  combine with molasses and eggs.  Alternate layers of crumb mix and molasses mix in the pie shell.  End/top with the crumb mix.  Bake @ 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Cut down to 350 degrees and bake about 30 minutes or until it gets firm.

    Good recipe. My grandmother used to make one very similar to this when I was a kid. We called it Jes-pie. Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to try this one.
