Everybody Loves Chicken Nuggets
Too bad most of chicken nuggets are garbage.
Chicken nuggets are a favorite of kids nation wide. The problem is they are made out of the leftovers from the processing plant then breaded, deep fried, frozen and sold to you as a great way for your kids to get protein.
Well below is a recipe for homemade chicken nuggets that will be sure to please and be healthy too.
You need:
Chicken, breasts or thighs work best
Buttermilk
Whole wheat flour
Whole wheat bread crumbs
As you can see this is a recipe without measurements don’t let that scare you off, sometimes it can be fun to cook without a net. Just use your best judgement according to the size of your family.
First in a medium mixing bowl mix about 1/3 whole wheat flour to 2/3 whole wheat bread crumbs.
Pour the buttermilk into a separate bowl.
Cut your raw chicken into nuggets, or strips if you want to make fingers, and throw them into the buttermilk.
Time to get you hands really dirty. Pick the chicken pieces out of the buttermilk and put them into the bowl of flour and breadcrumbs. Toss them around until they are coated on all sides.
Next lay them out on a baking sheet leaving a little space between each one.
Bake them at 375 for 20-25 min or until crispy, flipping once at about the 15 min mark. Remove, Let cool, and serve. I like to serve these with a little honey for dipping.
This recipe is sort of bland it was written with kids in mind. If you want to spice it up a little you could always add some pepper of cayenne pepper to the bread crumb mix.
