Food for The Gods
“Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity.” – Voltaire.
Food for the Gods is commonly known as “Date Bars,” but here in the Philippines, we call it that – “Food for the Gods” because of the way the brown sugar and butter mix and blend well as it delights the tongue. The addition of dates guarantees a subtle moistness while corn syrup and molasses assure chew. Eating it is sheer heaven!

Ingredients:
1 cup pitted dates, chopped
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup butter, cubed
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 14/ cups all purpose white flour
3 large eggs
Instructions:
Step # 1
When you start mixing your ingredients, remember to preheat the oven to 350 F.
Step # 2
Prepare an 8 x 12 inch pan. Grease and flour it, then set it aside for a while.
Step # 3
In a saucepan, melt butter on medium heat then add the white and brown sugar. Mix it until well combined, and then remove from heat.
Step # 4
Add the eggs one at a time and stir using a wire whisk, but make sure that the egg is mixed in completely before adding the next.
Step # 5
Add the walnuts and the dates then mix well.
Step # 6
Combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl, and mix it well then add it to the date mixture. Mix just until everything’s incorporated but do not over beat.
Step # 7
Pour the mixture in an 8 x 12 inch pan and bake in the oven at 350F for 35-40 minutes or until the toothpick inserted comes out clean but not dry.
Step # 8
Let it cool completely before slicing.

Those date bars sure look yummy. When i saw the title i thought that your article is about the food we offer to gods. In India making foods for Hindu gods is a ritual by itself.
