French Bread

This bread is sure to leave our home smelling like a good old bakery. MMM.

    French Bread

  Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup Warm water
  • 1 tbsp Rye flour
  • 1/8 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 1/4 cup Salt
  • 3 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1 pk Dry yeast
  • 1 cup Cold water

   Preparation:

Place yeast and sugar in warm water till dissolved. In large mixing bowl mix flour and salt. Add cold water slowly into the flour. Stir until dough forms a ball. Let dough rest for about 7 minutes. Add flour and kneed for about 9 minutes. Let rest for a couple minutes and kneed again for about 3 minutes more. Place in bowl, cover and chill until rise about an hour. Take out dough and fold several times. Place back in bowl, cover and let rise about 2 more hours. Remove from fridge and split in half. Form dough into round bread loaves, slash the top with a very sharp thin knife. Place dough on baking sheet or cookie sheet in a 400% oven. Steam the bread for the first 16 minutes. Bake for an additional 20 minutes.
