Grandma’s Homemade White Bread
A recipe for homemade white bread that my Grandma used to make. It was passed down to my my and all of my aunts and then to my cousins and me. It is very good and there is nothing like the fresh smell of homemade bread.

Homemade White Bread Recipe
2 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cups shortening
1/2 cups sugar
12 cups flour (or more)
1 heaping Tbsp salt
2 pkg yeast dissolved in
1/2 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups water
Scald milk, shortening, sugar and salt over medium high heat. Let cool, then add water and dissolved yeast. Add half the flour and stir until smooth. Keep adding the flour a little bit at a time, until the dough is smooth and not sticky. Cover bowl and let rise until double in bulk. Remove from bowl and place dough in individual bread pans. Cover and let rise again until double in size. Then bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Makes about four to five loaves. Once your remove them from the oven, remove the bread from the pans, butter the tops of the bread, let cool and then enjoy. You can also make these into rolls by placing them in a roll or cupcake pan. Take three little sections and roll/shape them in your hands. Place them in the cupcake pan and let rise til double in bulk. Then bake as you would the bread. The rolls may get done a little bit sooner than the bed, so keep an eye on them so that they don’t burn.
