Homemade Pizza Dough

published by Tulan on Jun 8, 2011

This homemade pizza dough is very good and less expensive than the grocery store crust. I make it with a cheese and vegetable topping but you can add pepperoni, beef or whatever you want. You do have to make it the night before but it’s not really much of an inconvenience for the fresh flavor you get from home made.

This is a simple, light general purpose pizza dough. You can make it in a mixer with a dough hook, or by hand.  I use it to make vegetarian pizza.

Ingredients

1/4 cup warm water
1 package active dry yeast
3 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cups cold water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon salt

In a small bowl, stir yeast in the warm water and let it proof for 10 minutes. Place flour into the bowl of a mixer with dough hook. In a small bowl, combine the cold water, olive oil. honey and salt and mix well. With motor running on low, slowly pour the honey mixture in, then pour in dissolved yeast. Process until dough forms a ball around dough hook. If it’s sticky, sprinkle in more flour by the tablespoon until it is easier to handle. transfer dough to a lightly oiled bowl, turn the dough once to coat with oil. Cover with plastic wrap and dough rest overnight or at least 8 hours. Divide dough into 2 pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth, tight ball. Place on floured plate, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate or use.  If you don’t have a mixer with a dough hook, follow these directions and mix my hand.

Roll out dough to fit round pan or square. Sprinkle cheese over dough and chopped onions, peppers, broccoli, and tomatoes over cheese. Sprinkle on a little more cheese if you like. If you eat meat you can add pepperoni or beef with veggies or without. Bake in a 375 degree oven about 20 minutes or until done.
