Spicy Samosa Recipe

published by sasi rao on Jan 28, 2010

Samosa is a typical Indian dish, makes for a yummy snack, good to serve to your guests. Add some imagination and innovation of your own and give it your own touch.

What will you need?

Ingredients

All Purpose Flour (maida)  - 2cups

Canola or Dalda (hindi) -1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Baking powder -1 tsp in 1tsp of warm water.

A pinch of turmeric powder

Chili powder – 1/4tsp

Cummin Powder (jeera) – 1tsp

Coriander Powder (Dhaniya) – 2tsp

Garam masala -1/2 tsp (available at an Indian store)

Oil for deep frying.

For the Filling

Potatoes – 3 (boiled and cut into small cubes)

The Method

Knead the dough with slightly warm water. Keep it covered with a damp muslin cloth for 30minutes.

Toss in all the other ingredients/spices together with the potatoes. Mix well.

Now divide and shape small potions of dough into round dumplings between your palms. Roll them out wit a rolling pin. Now cut out 1/4 of this round disc.

Now wet the sides of the disc with your fingers and roll it into a cone and attach the sides. Add the filling into this cone and close the ends of the dough.

Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the samosas until done.

You can even half fry them and store it in the freezer for later use. The frozen samosas can be heated in a micro for 30secs and fried again to serve fresh.

Enjoy the hot samosas with chutneys or ketchup of your choice.
