The Best Chunky Apple Spice Bread
Seriously yummy bread recipe. This is a delicious 10 day “friendship bread” variation that will have your friends wanting more. Serve this bread with some apple butter for the perfect fall flavor mixture.
Start with this 10 day bread starter.
Step 1 – Get a plastic bowl or a gallon Ziploc bag.
Step 2 – Add one cup of flour, one cup of milk and one cup of sugar and one package yeast.
Step 3 – Leave it alone for 3 days out on the counter, not in the refrigerator. This will allow it to start to ferment and work its magic.
Step 4 – On days 4 and 5, stir the mixture or squish the bag.
Step 5 – On day 6, add 1 cup of flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup of milk.
Step 6 – On days 7-9, stir the mixture or squish up the bag.
Step 7 – Get ready to make some magic. On day 10, add to the bowl 1 ½ cups of flour, 1 ½ cups of sugar and 1 ½ cups of milk. Then take one cup of the batter and get ready to make your bread. The basic recipe is:
1 cup of batter
3 eggs
1 cup oil
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cup sugar
½ cup milk
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
2 cups flour
1 large box instant vanilla pudding
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup of raisins
½ cup of walnuts or pecans
Peel and slice 3 good apples. You want an apple that is crisp and fairly firm. Put the apples in a pan with one cup of water. Cook the apples until they are soft and falling apart, but still have some chunks. Add the apples to the bread mix.
Mix all ingredients together. Generously grease 2 large loaf pans. Then dust the pans with a mixture of ¼ cup of sugar and 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon. Divide the batter into the two pans and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar. Bake at 350 for apx. 60 minutes. Check with toothpick. It may need 10 more minutes. Remove from pans after 10 minutes to a cooling rack.
