Here is a yummy recipe that you can, perhaps, use as a desert for your Christmas meal.

2 cups coarse stale bread crumbs

6 cups sliced tart, pared apples

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

3 Tbsp lemon juice

1/4 cup water

2 tbsp butter

Put a 1/3 of the bread crumbs into a buttered casserole and cover with half the apples. Mix cinnamon, sugar and salt together and sprinkle half of this mixture oover apples. Add another layer of crumbs, then apples and sprikle the rest of the sugar mixture over it. Top the casserole with crumbs, pour lemon juice and water all over and dot with butter. Cover at  350 F for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer. serve cold or hot
