How to Make a Store-bought Cake Look Home-made

published by Nabil798 on Mar 20, 2010

We don’t all have the time to make elegant cakes for every dinenr party or tea party. I’m going to show you what to do when you don’t have all the time needed for a cake.

Selecting Your Cake

Try to select a cake that has a topping that’ll melt (e.g. Fudge, Frosting)

And that has a good shape.

Making it Look Home-made

If the topping’s completely even; take a spatula and spread it un-evenly.

Making it Warm – Again

If the cake has instructions on how to warm it up - follow them – if not either:

  1. Put the cake in the oven at medium heat and leave it for 5 minutes. (If you’re serving it right out of the oven, make sure to turn up the heat to high, and tell your guests “Be careful; it’s hot!”

Or for a faster finish:

2.Put the cake in the microwave at full power and microwave for 20 seconds

For an extra touch:

If it’s chocolate:

Drizzle some melted chocolate or put a dollop of cream on top.

If it’s berry:

Take some berry syrup (4 parts water, 1 part sugar, and a handfull of berries. Melt together until syrup is thicker)

For others:

Make a sauce, syrup or topping based on what’s in the cake.

If I buy an angel food cake I add cinnamon to fat free cool whip & frost the cake with that & a side of berries. It’s very good! A little orange zest on top makes it even prettier.
