Secret to Make a Good Layer Cake

Layer cake consider a easy and fun to make, but what is the step that you need to take extra precaution in order to produce a good layer cake?

Layer cake is easy to make, just follow the recipes then the result you can not get wrong, but sometime thing just do not come out as expected. There are few commons failure that usually will happen when you prepare your layer cake, you need to pay extra precaution to prevent this to happen.

Well, adding ingredients not follow by recipe, may be too much sugar, too much flour or not enough butter & pan not greased properly, that called under mix failure. Another common failure is that you will notice that the cake high is not equal, this cause by batter put in pan unevenly & not proper smooth out. This also may due to oven heats uneven.

Do you ever come out a cake that harder than rock?I’m not joking, happen to me once.This due to too many Eggs & flour, over mixing the ingredient, you should stop mixing while see white bubble appear. If you over temperature too high it will cause you cake hard crust, so make sure you use the appropriate temperature when baking the cake.

There are few key items that you need to take note in order bake a good layer cake.

1. Carefully measure all the ingredients. Ingredient need to follow by the recipe’s ratio, not too much or too little,else it will produce a layer cake that is too sweet and not tasty enough.
2. Don’t over mix or too little leavening the ingredients. This is a common mistake done by most of people that over mix cause heavy texture on the cake.
3. Use standard measuring cups & spoons. All measurement need to be exactly the same ratio. I think it almost same tip as item 1.
4. Do Use cake flour because most of the people love to use purpose flour.
5. Make sure to have ingredients at room temperature, don’t prepare your ingredient more that 30 degree.If your oven temperature is questionable, invest in an oven thermometer. Some ovens might be off by as much as 75°F.
