So What’s Your Cake Style Going to be?

Cake baking has become an art. think of a shape and it can be made. below are some that I would want done for my kid. what’s yours?

The best birthday cake that I had was for my 5th birthday.  It was a Humpty Dumpty cake. The body of it was a hollow hard chocolate and the outside coating had marzipan and chocolate cream. The best part was when I cut the cake. Humpty Dumpty’s stomach cracked open and out popped small marshmallows and chocolates (nuts, caramel, plain) covered with shiny blue red green pink and golden paper! Awesome! Thank you Flury’s (Kolkata, India).

Well, now that I am a mommy, below are some cake ideas that I would like to use for my child’s birthday some day.

1. Jewellery cake
A butterscotch cake as the jewellery box while hard chocolate and crunchy wafers make the lid. In it are kept necklaces of vanilla cake and white chocolate, chocolate bracelets decorated with gems, sugar-drop and candy flower earrings, biscuit rings etc.

2. Candle cake
This is a cylindrical fruit and nut cake with a hard outer coating of chikki (peanut bar). The best part will be a small chocolate piece placed on top with a wick in it. So instead of candles on a cake, the cake itself will be a candle!

3.Pizza cake
A flat plain vanilla cake with strawberry dessert topping (for the sauce) on top. On this will be placed small chocolate pieces for the meat chunks and finally it will be sprinkled white chocolate to represent the cheese.

4. Barbie cake
While Barbie’s head pops out, the gown part will be the cake – a delicious choco-chip cake covered with colourful icing and decorated with Oreo biscuits and jelly beans.

5. Pepsi bottle
A fudge cake with chocolate butter cream icing shaped like the Pepsi bottle and then painted with the right food colours at the right places.

6. A stack of comic books
Let’s see. Hmm. I think I will have five such ‘books’, each with a different flavour – choco-almond with mint buttercream  , strawberry with a fresh mango puree buttercream , coconut with peach and cherry buttercream , vanilla with lemon buttercream and carrot with a caramel buttercream. Each would then have its own ‘comic’ designs painted on it with food colours.

7.Lollipop cake
The cake will actually be a huge bouquet of ‘cake lollipops’. A gooey chocolate cake in the inside and a candy coating on the outside with multicolored choco sprinkles.

8. Rainbow ice cream cake
A vanilla cake layered with different flavoured ice cream – strawberry, chocolate, pistachio and butterscotch.

Till next time, Keep baking! And keep sharing your ideas with me.
