Train Cake

published by Darla Cooke on Dec 17, 2008

Children will love this as a birthday party cake.

Ingredients

  • cake batter (any flavor)
  • frosting (any flavor)
  • marshmallows
  • Life Savers
  • licorice
  • small cookies
  • peanuts
  • other candy

Method

Use 4 to 6 small loaf pans. Fill each pan only half full with cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Frost the train cars any color. Before frosting the engine, place a marshmallow on top for a smokestack and frost over it. Use Life Savers or small cookies for the wheels. Connect the train cars with short pieces of licorice.

To indicate “cargo,” sprinkle on top of each train car: red hot candies, peanuts, crushed peppermint, sugar sprinkles, etc. Place birthday candles on top of the cake. They can be inserted in the center of Life Savers.
