Some inexpensive things that make life worthwhile (and not necessarily in order)

1. Three consecutive green lights on the road. I once had five. I’m sure that if I had six, I’d have fainted.
2. The smell of fresh earth after a shower of rain.
3. A driver on the road actually slowing down and allowing you to proceed first.
4. Slipping into clothes that smell of lightly perfumed detergent and that are soft and silky.
5. Being able to sleep in on a rainy day, and snuggle up under a warm quilt.
6. The innocent, guileless smile of a child as he or she looks you straight in the eye and just beams away to glory.
7. Being able to put your legs up and relax after a hard day’s work (either watching a favourite television serial or reading an absorbing book).
8. Putting your hands in the pockets of a pair of jeans only to discover some currency notes in there (and preferably of large denominations). Even the notes had a rinse in the washing machine.
9. Seeing the energy of the elderly in the way they walk, conduct themselves, or interact with others.
10. Winning a prize from a contest you participated in or WINNING the lottery.
11. A quiet moment first thing in the morning with a steaming cup of coffee (or tea): just staring into space, with the birds singing all around you. Rarely happens these days though.
12. Sinking your bare feet into a luxurious carpet of flowers that have fallen from a tree overloaded with blossoms.
13. Soaking in a bathtub?
14. Getting a long weekend off: i.e. Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday.
15. Finding out you’ve lost a very few grams of weight (barely perceptible) after the yuletide season (or any other festival for that matter).
16. Relieving yourself after having to hold up for so long.
17. Buying and wrapping gifts for family and friends at Christmas.
18. Compassion toward a stray dog or any animal.
19. Getting into a well-worn pair of jeans and a soft/faded/oversized T-shirt.
20. Enjoying a beautiful pink sunset.
21. Pigging out on rich, gooey, delicious chocolate cake…yum..yum..yum.
