Coconut Bonbons

Coconut Bonbons are a chocolate covered holiday staple in much of the South.

Ingredients

  • 2 1 lb. boxes powered sugar
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 1 can condensed sweetened milk
  • 7 oz. shredded sweetened coconut
  • 2 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 lb. chopped pecans
  • 1 ½ large package semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 block paraffin

Method

  1. Melt butter, move to large bowl, add 1 box sugar, mix well. Add milk, mix, add second box sugar, mix. Add nuts, coconut, and vanilla, mix well. Put in refrigerator overnight, shape into 1 inch balls and place on wax paper lined tray. Insert toothpicks halfway into in balls. Chill 1 hour.
  2. Melt chocolate and shaved paraffin in a double boiler over medium heat. Once completely melted dip each ball and replace on wax paper lined tray. Remove toothpicks.
