How to Make… Heavenly Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

published by NorthernSun on Jan 10, 2010

This old traditional recipe that my Grandmother used to make for me as a child, it creates the most fantastic Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies that I have ever tasted.

Heavenly Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.

When I was going through my Grandmothers old things to determine what she should keep and what she should sell when moving to her new house, I came across an old box of recipes that she used to make frequently when I was a little girl. She told me that I could keep all of the recipes and use them anywhere that I wanted to aslong as her recipes wouldn’t be forgotten when she died, which would have been if she had kept them at her old house. So I thought to upload one for all of you. Here it is for all of you at home with young children and some free time on your hands to bake with them.

Ingredients:

  •  1/2 Cup of Softened Butter. (125 mL)
  •  1 Cup of Packed Brown Sugar. (250 mL)
  •  1/2 Cup of Corn Syrup. (125 mL)
  •  Two Eggs.
  • 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla. (15 mL)
  •  3 Cups of Quick-Cooking Rolled Oats. (750 mL)
  •  2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour.
  •  2 Teaspoons of Baking Powder. (10 mL)
  • 1 Teaspoon of Salt. (5 mL)
  •  1 Cup of Whole Milk, not skimmed. (250 mL)
  •  1 Cup of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips. (250 mL)
  •  1/2 Cup of Dark Chocolate Chips. (125 mL)
  • 1/2 Cup of White Chocolate Chips. (125 mL)

Equipment:

  •  One Extra-Large Mixing Bowl.
  •  One Large Mixing Bowl.
  •  One Tablespoon.
  •  One Teaspoon.
  •  Two Measuring Dry-Ingredient Measuring Cups. (Half Cup and One Cup.)
  •  One Glass Measuring Cup.
  •  One Whisk.
  •  A Spoon. (Too Dish out the Batter.)
  •  Two Large Baking Sheets.
  •  One Wooden or Plastic Mixing Spoon.
  •  An Electric Beater. (Optional.)

Directions:

Before starting any of the preparation work, you must first preheat your oven too 375 Degrees Fahrenheit, or 190 Degrees Celsius (Depending on your stove). Lightly butter or spray with cooking oil the two large baking sheets. Set them aside on the stove for when you are finished with making the batter.

In the extra-large mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the Corn Syrup into the bowl. Beat in the two eggs until it is now light and creamy. Add the vanilla and stir it in.

In the large mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, baking powder and salt. Mix it until combined thoroughly.

Take the large mixing bowl with the dry-ingredients in it, and pour about a third of it into the butter mixture. Add about half of your milk ontop of it. Pour another third of your dry-ingredients into the mixture. Add the rest of your milk and add the rest of your dry-ingredients into the extra-large mixing bowl. Stir in the chocolate chips and mix your batter together until all of the ingredients are thoroughly in the mixture.

Spoon out your batter ontop of the baking sheets, you should make them into medium-sized circles so that the centers will be cooked properly. Put them into the oven and cook for about fifteen minutes or until the edges are crisp and brown but the centers are softer. Cool the baking sheets for about five minutes, then you can repeat the cooking process with the rest of the batter.

The batter should yield about four dozen cookies.

I hope that you and your family enjoy these cookies just as much as I did, when I was a little girl. They are truly delicious and warming to the stomache. Hopefully, it will be a cozy family moment for your children if they are old enough to help you make them, I remember I had fun helping my Grandma when I was young.
