Easy and Sweet Cream Cheese Frosting

A simple to make frosting for fall baking.

Well it seems that it is that time of year again, time for making wonderful goodies of various kinds, often involving pumpkin or at least pumpkin spice.  How often do you think about the frosting that goes on these baked goods?  Do you just put regular store bought frosting on your from scratch baked goods?  Try this four ingredient cream cheese frosting on your next baked treat.  It goes especially well with pumpkin spice cookies, or pumpkin spice bars.

You will need:

  • 1 pound softened cream cheese (usually 2 packages)
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • About 2 cups confectioners sugar (you can play with 1/4 of a cup either way depending on desired consistency and sweetness.  I like going a little over it makes it a thicker frosting.)
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Cream the butter and cream cheese in a medium mixing bowl.  Once well mixed add the vanilla and blend in.  Gradually add the confectioners sugar and mix as you add the sugar.  You are done, and good to go for decorating.

For a flavor twist you can also try almond extract, or another flavoring you feel like trying!  Also if you want to add some color feel free to add in food coloring.
