Guinataan  or tambong tambong is a snack food in the Philippines. It can be cooked following different steps and styles but the basic ingredients are almost the same. The way of cooking is what makes the difference in the taste. Cooking this snakc food depends on the cook’s preferences. There are those who complete all the recipes as they feel their Guinataan would be more delicious with complete ingredients. But, there are also those who can cook even with incomplete ingredients but come up with the same delicious taste or even better. Nevertheless, no matter how Guinataan or tambong tambong is cooked, the taste depends on one’s palate.

Here are the basic recipes.

whit or red sticky rice or the glutinous rice: grind or powdered   

Flour

coconut flesh- grinded or grated

Sago

Banana, saba variety

Sugar

Sweet potato or camote

Jackfruit seed flesh

            These are just the basic ingredients of Guinataan. You can alter some of the ingredients listed above. For example, instead of using sweet potato or “camote”, you can substitute it with a “Gabi”. Sugar can also be substituted with molasses. Once all your ingredients are set, you are now ready to cook your delicious Guinataan or tambong tambong.
