Here is a popular beef steak dish recipe with onions and lemon sauce from the Philippines. This tastes really good on hot steamed rice!

Beef steak served with onion rings is one of the most popular dishes in the Philippines. Wherever you go in the archipelago, you will be able to find a version of this dish which uses soy sauce and lots of onions. Here’s your chance to get a taste of saucy Filipino beef steak served with onions.

Ingredients

1/4 kg beef (sliced into thin strips)

2 large white onions (sliced into rings)

1 medium sized white onion for sauteeing (also ringed)

4 garlic cloves

4 tbsp Kalamondin/Calamansi (Philippine local lemon) juice

4 tbsp dark soy sauce

1/2 cup of water

Marinade mix (made of 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp calamansi juice)

Procedure

Marinade the beef strips in a mix of soy suace and calamansi juice for 15 minutes or more. Then fry the meat strips until they’re half-cooked. Set the beef aside in a bowl. In the same cooking pan, saute your garlic and sliced medium onion. You will use the other two onions later. Then, with the onion and garlic cooking, add the beef and continue cooking. Follow with the calamansi juice, soy sauce, and water. Simmer for 10 minutes. Then, add the leftover 2 large onions and simmer for another 5 minutes. Done! Serve this on piping hot steamed rice!
