Benefits of Broccoli for Your Heart

There are many good and healthy food can be consumed to maintain the health of our heart. Among them is the broccoli. Broccoli is its Latin name Brassica oleracea is a plant belonging to the tribe vegetables cabbage (Brassicaceae).

Until now the broccoli is very popular as a food ingredient. It has long been the type of vegetable is believed to have enormous benefits for health. Because broccoli is rich in provitamin A (carotenoids), vitamin C, vitamin E, folic acid.

So what are the benefits of broccoli so that the content of broccoli healthy for the heart?
From research conducted by Imperial College London, broccoli contains a substance that serves to enhance the natural durability and prevents clogging of blood vessels known as the Substance Sulforphane.

Sulforphane substance is a compound that is naturally contained in broccoli that can activate the protective protein is inactive in the arteries that are prone to clogging.

“People who already know that many vegetables are good for the body, but very surprisingly the molecular mechanisms of these substances is not known for many years,” said Paul Evans from the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College, as quoted by Reuters. Researchers there knew, a lot of things that cause blood vessel blockage. Usually the branches of blood vessels are more vulnerable to impaired blood flow. This is caused by the buildup of fat that cause most heart disease.

Evans added, the result showed also that in some vulnerable areas, the protective protein known as Nrf2 is usually inactive. And in people who frequently eat broccoli sulforaphane a chemical found more active in the area.

The results of this study have been reported in the journal Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, that sulforaphane can help save people a better chance of heart health by protecting blood vessels from clogging.

Therefore there is no harm in adding vegetables broccoli in your diet, thus helping reduce the risk of blockage of blood vessels that can threaten a person’s life.

There are several ways to eat broccoli, so you still get health benefits. Broccoli is good to have a dark green color and coarse-textured clear. If you love fresh vegetables, broccoli can you direct consumption. Or you can also make as one of the content of vegetables and also mixed with other vegetables for salads. Another option, you can eat broccoli in the form of juice.

For those who do not like eating right, you can boil it first. Please note, should you steam or boil the broccoli, not more than 5 minutes and 1 inch above the boiling water. Because sulforaphane content of broccoli can be lost if cooked too long.

Note: The content of sulforaphane in broccoli fresh higher than in the boiled or steamed broccoli overcooked.
If you want to wash the broccoli, you should do by washing in cold tap water. And you should not soak broccoli because the active substances or nutrients are soluble in water.
