Boycotting Green Bean Casserole, Boycotting Green Bean Casserole, CauliflowerFor the past Fifteen years, we’ve been motivated to bring the green bean casserole to Thanksgiving dinner. You already know, the famous one with canned soup and the ones packaged crispy onions.

Well, I’m rebeling. This coming year I have been previously about to introduce a “new” veggie side to the family table. The trouble is that we’re still swaying between Cauliflower with Mustard-Lemon Butter and Wilted Spinach with Nutmeg Butter. But they both feature butter, these are less cream-laden than other vegetable options — and now we curently have corn and the creamed onions.

Green Bean Casserole
Joe Caputo & Sons shared their recipe for green bean casserole; they omitted the boring cream of mushroom soup and French fried onions, and did something totally new.

Preparation takes 15 minutes, cooking time is A half-hour, serves six.

Ingredients:

Two (9 ounce) packages frozen, cut green beans, thawed.

Ten slices of bacon. Oscar Mayer bacon is get one, obtain one at Jewel-Osco in Des Plaines.

Ten small, fresh mushrooms, chopped.

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.

1/2 teaspoon onion powder.

Single serving of half-and-half cream.

1/4 cup of grated Mozerella.

Pepper and salt to taste.

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place green beans in a 1 quart or similar sized casserole dish.

2. Fry bacon inside a large deep skillet over medium-high heat until browned and crispy. Remove to empty in some recoverable format towels. Drain off a few of the grease, but leave enough to coat the bottom of the pan. Add mushrooms to the grease inside the pan and season with garlic powder and onion powder. Cook and stir until tender, about four minutes.

3. Pour the half-and-half in to the pan while using mushrooms and stir to scrape the bacon flavor through the bottom in the pan. Simmer until thickened slightly, about 5 minutes. Pour this mixture within the green beans. Crumble bacon extraordinary and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper.

4. Bake for 20 minutes within the preheated oven, or until the sauce is bubbling along with the top is toasted.
