The Cayenne Chili Pepper is often used in cooking to make hot and spicy dishes, they can be used fresh and whole or dried and ground down to form a powder, they are generally rated at 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units.

The Cayenne Chili Pepper is named from the city of Cayenne in French Guiana, they are a cultivar of the Capsicum annuum family and are related to bell peppers, jalapeños and other chili peppers, as a whole Chili pepper plants are mostly perennial in sub-tropical and tropical regions, varieties of cayenne can be grown in a many locations however in colder climates they may prefer being grown under glass, they need approximately 100 days to mature, Peppers grow best with warm, moist, nutrient-rich soil, with the plants growing to about 2–4 feet (0.6–1 metre) in height.
