Chocolate Glazed Poached Pears

published by A Bromley on Apr 9, 2012

I don’t often make a fancy dessert but every now and then there is an occasion that calls for it and I have several recipes. More often than not though I try to make something fruity unless the occasion calls for something specific like a favorite birthday cake. Poached pears are one of my favorites. Here is how I make them.

CHOCOLATE GLAZED POACHED PEARS

These pears are to die for.  They are so delicious and they are easy to make. You will need a bottle of champagne or Blue Nun German white wine which is what I usually use rather than the champagne.

In a sauce pan over medium heat combine

1/2 bottle wine

1 cup sugar

1 cup orange juice

4 slices orange including peel

4 whole cloves

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Bring to a full boil and stir until sugar dissolves

Peel pears leaving stem in

Place pears in syrup and reduce heat to simmer

Cover and simmer for 15 minutes and then remove cover

and simmer for another 30-35 minutes.  Remove pears from

syrup to serving plates and cool.

While pears are cooling melt 1/2 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips dish in heat proof dish over hot water. Stir until completely melted and then drizzle over cooled pears.  Garnish with a sprinkle of shredded coconut and serve.
