Cook in One Hour: Apple Crumble

How to cook a fast and simple apple crumble step-by-step.

Apple crumble is a simple and healthy dessert to make. Sometimes, the simplest beates the most sophisticated. And this is an example.

Serves 4.

Ingredients

We have to separate the ingredients between those used in the filling and those used to make the crumble.

Crumble

  • 275g of plain flower (WARNING: no self raising flour!).
  • 160g of sugar, brown preferred.
  • 210g of butter, very important to remove it 2 hours from the fridge, not heating it using the microwaves.
  • ~1g salt (1 pinch).

Filling

  • 2 apples
  • 40g of sugar, brown preferred.
  • 5g of flour, any.
  • ~1g cinnamon (optional).

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 175ºC. We do this first so we can prepare the apple crumble while the oven is doing its job.
  2. Take 2 bowls
  3. Place the flour for the crumble in one bowl.
  4. Add the 160g of sugar to the bowl of flour
  5. Mix well that bowl.
  6. Cut the butter into little cubes
  7. Add a knob of butter and mix. Add another and mix, and so on until you finish the butter and mixture resembles bread crumbs
  8. In the other bowl, add the 40g of sugar and the cinnamon and mix.
  9. Peel the 2 apples.
  10. Take off the middle part of the apple.
  11. Cut the apples into thin slices. Put them in the bowl.
  12. Sprinkle the 5g of flour over the fruit.
  13. Mix carefully the fruit mixture.
  14. Butter an ovenproof dish.
  15. Add the fruit mixture to the bottom.
  16. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over the fruit mixture.
  17. Bake for 40 minuites in the oven.
  18. Cool the apple crumble for 10 minuites.
  19. Serve it with custard or thick cream.
