We certainly think that the proper way to store vegetables is to put into the refrigerator to keep it fresh. But not all foods can be stored in the refrigerator.Here are five examples.
Tomatoes
Ok, technically the tomato is a fruit, but closer called a vegetable. If you’ve planted tomatoes, then you will know that tomatoes love heat and hate cold. Apparently though after picking, the tomatoes still can not stand the cold. Refrigerator is not a suitable place to store tomatoes. Tomatoes stored in the refrigerator to wither and although can still be used for cooking but not to be eaten fresh. Keep it on the kitchen table (but not direct sunlight) and enjoy the time was ripe.
Basil
Just like tomatoes, basil also likes the heat, so if kept in the cold will cause premature wilting basil. Basil will be in maximum condition if kept on the kitchen table and be treated like fresh flowers. Handful of basil can be stored in a cup filled with water (change water setiap once a day or two) and keep it away from sunlight. Wrap loosely with a plastic bag to keep it moist (but make sure the plastic has a hole for the entrance of fresh air).
Potato
Good potatoes stored at a cool temperature but not cold temperatures can make it freeze. Potatoes either stored in a temperature of about 7.2 degrees Celsius, about 10 degrees warmer than the refrigerator in general. Most of us do not have a basement storage room (where the dark and cold temperature to keep vegetables such as potato tuber roots), so storing potatoes in a paper bag in a cool place (like in the pantry) is the best.
Why paper? Because the paper has more pores for benapas, not like plastic. So potatoes will not rot easily. And why not the fridge? Storing potatoes in the refrigerator can convert starch into sugar substances easily, which can affect the taste, texture, and process maturity.
Onion
Onions out of the ground with a thin protective skin.
