How to Make Your Own Pumpkin Puree

published by fordtristan on Oct 29, 2009

Make your own pumkin puree to use in all your pumpkin recipes!

Pie pumpkins are smaller than carving pumpkins. They are usually about 6-8 inches each and you can get them from any pumpkin farm. They generally cost around 3 dollars each.

After buying your pumpkin take it home and give it a good wash with some plain water.

Then cut off the stem.

Next, cut the pumpkin in half with a large serrated knife (so that your less likely to injure yourself).

Scoop out the seeds with a large spoon or ice crea scooper. You can save the seeds to plant yourself or roast.

Place the pumpkin halves in a bowl filled with a couple inches of water. Cover the bowl with a lid or towel and microwave for 30 minutes. You can also cook then in the oven but it takes a little longer.

Once your pumpkin is cooked through the skin should just slide off.

Now you can puree your pumkin in a food processor untill smooth. This should take 1-2 minutes.

Drain off any freestanding water and your pumpkin puree is ready for baking!

Some pumpkin recipies you can try are:

Pumpkin cookies

Pumpkin bread

Pumpkin pie

Pumpkin custard

Pumpkin rolls
