Glucoraphanin breaks down fat in the body, thereby preventing fat from coating the arteries. Glucoraphanin is one of the nutrients that help to reduce the risk of heart disease.
Glucoraphanin may also reduce the risk of heart attacks. In broccoli, the chemical is used to ward off insects. Researchers think that it may attack cancer cells as well.

A new breed of hybrid broccoli has been developed which contains three times the amount of Glucoraphanin that is found in regular broccoli.
The new breed of broccoli was produced by crossbreeding British and Sicilian broccoli. This new breed of hybrid broccoli is not a genetically modified food.
