Quick and Easy Applesauce
One of the quickest treats to make is applesauce. You can make it the old fashioned way, boiling the fruit on top of the stove for at least half an hour and then mashing everything up by hand or you can try my method which is a lot faster and easier. Either way you will end up with a delicious treat, but by doing it my way, you will enjoy it a lot sooner.
Simply take four or five apples (any type that you prefer), peel them and cut them into pieces. Put them into a microwaveable bowl, sprinkle a tiny bit of cinnamon (and nutmeg if you like), and 1/2 tsp sugar if you are using tart apples like Granny Smith or Macintosh. Mix everything up together in a microwavable bowl. You can even add a splash of lemon juice if you like your applesauce even more tart. Cook, covered in microwave oven for about seven minutes, depending on the strength of your oven.
Be careful when you take the lid off because there will be a lot of steam. Add about 1/4 cup water or apple juice and put everything into the food processor or blender. Mix until desired smoothness. My kids like it the consistency of baby food but some people like it chunky. If you like yours with a little bit more texture, you can always mash it by hand with a potato masher or don’t process or blend it as long. Serve it hot, cold or room temperature, just make sure that you keep the leftovers (if you have any) stored in the fridge, covered up.

This tastes great alone just as a healthy snack or you can pair it up with pork chops, which my family loves or on top of what I call tofu “chops”, because I do not eat meat. You can even make up a bigger batch and use it for apple pie filling. When I was growing up, my mom used to make apple pies all the time but she always made it using applesauce and not sliced apples. It makes a nice alternative.

You really should give this simple but delicious recipe a try. I’ve been making this for years. You can use the same recipe using pears or peaches as well. This applesauce recipe can be used as a substitute for jarred baby food. You know exactly what is going into it and what you are feeding your baby. There’s no need to worry over added chemicals, preservatives, salt or sugar, unless of course you add it yourself. This applesauce can be used in place of oils when baking or you can add it to smoothie recipes as well. Give it a try, you’ll love it.

Sounds great, I think I’ll get my wife to try your applesauce for pie filling because I really like apple turnovers.
