Recipes with Apples

Apple jam
Ingredients
- Ripen apples,1kg
- Sugar, 1kg
- Citric acid, 2ml
- Food color, A little
Method
- Peel off the apples and remove all the seeds
- Cut it into small pieces
- Add some water and boil for 5 minutes
- Make it a paste using a spoon
- Add sugar to this paste and boil it until it froths
- Now add some food color to it
- Test the jam whether it is ready or not by adding a spoon of jam into cool water, if it is ready it doesn’t mix in water
- Switch the stove off
- Add some citric acid to it and mix thoroughly
- Keep it in an air tight container after cooling.
Apple Halwa (Halva)
Ingredients:
- Ripened apples, 2
- Sugar, ½ kg
- Milk, ½ liter
- Ghee, 50g
- Cardamom powder, food color, A little
- Raisins, 10
Method
- Peel off the apple skins and remove all the seeds
- Grate the apples
- Remove the water in the apple by squeezing with a soft cotton cloth. Fry the grated apple in ghee for 3 minutes.
- Add milk and food color and boil for 10 minutes in a low flame
- Now mix sugar in it and cook it until the mixture becomes thick
- Add cardamom powder and raisins before removing the vessel from the stove
Precautions while using apples:
- While preparing sweets with apple add sugar at initial stage to retain apple’s color.
- Keep other fruits distant from apples because apple releases ethylene which spoils other fruits and vegetables.
- To ripen apples naturally keep them in a polythene bag and punch small holes in it. Keep it at room temperature. Observe them after 3 days that they are ripened and ready to eat.
