Seed a Pomegranate Properly

published by hnatalieann on Jun 7, 2011

Pomegranates are loaded with healthy antioxidants and can be added to recipes or eaten alone. However you want to eat them, here is an easy, mess-free way to get out every single seed.

- Items you will need -

Medium sized bowl 3/4 full of water

Pomegranate

Start by cutting off the pomegranate’s crown and score the skin into sections, making sure you cut where the membranes are at its thickest. This helps to ensure you do not damage any of the seeds.

Now submerge the pomegranate into the bowl of water and then gently pry it open into sections. Keeping the pomegranate submerged in the water, start removing the internal membranes and gently pull out the seeds.

All of the seeds will sink to the bottom while the membranes will float to the top making it easy to discard.

Remove the seeds from the water and transfer them onto a clean dry paper towel. Allow the seeds to dry, and eat or use as you wish.

You can store the seeds in an airtight container for up to three days.
