Spaghetti on a Shoestring.

Prepare two cups of bread crumbs and set aside.

Chop two large onions and two tomatoes. Begin

cooking 1 package (500 grams) spaghetti according to

the package directions. While spaghetti is cooking, heat

one tablespoon oil in a saucepan. Add the chopped onions and braise over a low

heat. Then add the tomatoes, cover, and let the mixture simmer until tomatoes

are cooked. Salt and pepper to taste.

Grease an oven-proof dish and layer the bottom with 2/3 cup of bread crumbs.

Drain spaghetti.

Layer baking dish, on top of bread crumbs with tomato and onion mixture, then with spaghetti. Layer the bread crumbs, tomato and onion, and spaghetti again. The last layer will be just the bread crumbs. Dot with a bit of butter or margarine. Bake in the oven for approximately 15 minutes in a moderate oven.

(Optional: If you wish to add meat to the tomato and onion mixture, you may brown hamburger or ground turkey and add it to the simmering tomato and onions.)
