There are quite a few items you perhaps have in your cupboard or pantry which can be great substitutions in your cooking, baking and culinary creations! Here are some easy ones to start with…

There are quite a few items you perhaps have in your cupboard or pantry which can be great substitutions in your cooking, baking and culinary creations!  Here are some easy ones to start with…

Instead of…                     Substitute With…

1 Cup Cream

1 Cup Evaporated Milk

Cream to thicken Soups

Pureed Potatoes or Vegetables

Oil-based Marinades

Citrus Juice or Flavored Vinegar

Stick Butter

Small amounts of Olive oil, Canola oil, or Broth

2 Ounces of Mild Cheddar Cheese

1 ounce Reduced-fat Sharp Cheddar Cheese

White Rice

Brown rice, Bulgur, Kasha, Quinoa, Whole Wheat Couscous

Meat or Poultry for Stir Fry

Tofu (Extra Firm, Cubed) or more Vegetables

Ground Meat

Ground Turkey Breast; Finely Chopped Vegetables with Less Meat; Crumbled Tofu, Tempeh, or Soy Crumbles; Beans

    I like olive oil for butter since butter is so unhealthy and vegetable ol is delicious and a healthy oil. Thanks for the suggestion!

    I would try any of these suggestions but tofu for meat. I do not like the texture, it blends in the flavor I put it in but thattexture gets to me.My mom will not even try it!

    It is very good to replace white rice with brown rice.
