Tomatoes and Squash

published by smokychristine on Jul 30, 2012

Why does it feel so good to get produce raised in one’s own garden?

I wanted to share at least the corner of the raised garden I made this summer.  Wish there was a better picture.  I’m not a great carpenter nor a great picture taker, but you can get the idea.  In the upper edge of the pic is the railing that the storm ravaged a few weeks ago.

Now for the squash and tomatoes…there are radishes also and I got one green pepper.  The squash and pepper were our veggies tonight for supper and sliced tomatoes were our salad.

The squash were cut in pieces and matched with the one green pepper sliced and sauteed .  A little salt and it was delicious.  Next time maybe a tad of Worcestershire sauce. And what can one say about fresh tomatoes from the gaden?

I was concerned when the tomatoes were taking so long to ripen, but today that all changed.  I had to get a box to bring them in.  I have enough to give away.  Hooray for tomatoes!

Now…there is a problem.  The squash is starting to develop mold.  I don’t want it to spread to the tomatoes.  Does anyone have any natural remedies?

The freshness and intense flavors from home-grown veggies is not comparable! Add a bit of garlic to the pepper and squash and you will love the taste! Congratulations on your garden…

I think it is a good picture.. I do not have advice about your squash. But do know your meal sounds delicious from last night. My mom never grew suash like this before. She usually has them grow up our backyad fence.

We plant trees in our backyard too. It’s worth it especially when time for harvest comes. Thanks for this good article. :-)

Your garden takes me back to my youth. My grandmother and Uncles, had huge outside gardens.
Unfortunetely, where we live, cannot have an outdoor garden.
Best of luck on your vegetable garden!
