Holidays are known for their abundance of sweet treats lavishly spread by family and friends on their table with cheer. Here are a few of my holiday favorites.

Carmel Corn- You’ll need:

8 qts. Popped corn

2c. brown sugar

1/2 c. light corn syrup

2 sticks oleo or butter

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/4 c. cream of tartar

Mix sugar, syrup, oleo or butter in a pan. Bring to a boil and cook 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add baking soda, salt and cream of tartar. Mix thoroughly. Immediately pour over popped corn in a large container. Mix thoroughly. Put on a cookie sheets (lightly sprayed) bake 1 hr.at 200 degrees. Pour on waxed paper, let cool. Separate and store in containers when cool and dry.

Hi-Ho’s- You’ll need:

Peanut Butter

Marshmallow cream

Chocolate Almond Bar

White chocolate optional able

Spread 1 Ritz cracker with peanut butter spread and another Ritz cracker with marshmallow cream. Put together and dip in melted chocolate (almond bark). Put on waxed paper to dry. Can use some white chocolate and put any Christmas decorations on the top.

Best Ever Brownies- You will need:

Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes. Sprinkle top (before baking) with nuts and chocolate chips. Cool and cut in squares. These are extra good.

Butterscotch Rice Krispies- You will need:

2 c. Butterscotch chips

1 c. peanut butter

3 Tbls.Butter

2c.chocolate chips

½ cup powdered sugar.

Mix together 2 c.butterscotch chips and 1c. Peanut butter. Pour over 8 cups of Rice Krispies and mix well. Press ½ of mixture into a buttered 13×9 pan. Put in refrigerator while you melt together 2c. Chocolate chips, 2 Tbls. Milk, 3 Tbls. Butter, and 1/2c. Powdered sugar. Spread chocolate mixture over rice krispie layers. Spread remaining ½ of mixture over top of chocolate layer. Chill and cut in squares. Keeps well!

Mothers indeed are truly inspiration when it comes to handing down delicious recipes. These are a few of my mother’s best holiday pass arounds. She always made a few extra for my friends and co-workers. They all commented on how great everything tasted. Try a few of these Christmas favorites of mine and tell me about their lip smacking goodness.

People who are sensitive to peanut butter can think about using many of the nutty butter spreads at their local health food store. Think about all the other peanut butter alternatives that are available for a different healthy holiday choice. Personally I’ve never tried this but sounds like a winner to me.

Personal Experience and knowledge. These recipes have been handed down from my mother. Enjoy!
