How to Make Sugar Rings

These tasty treats make a great snack. Try them yourself.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250 g) of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of grated lemon rind
  • 2 teaspoons of grated orange rind
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups of cake flour
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • confectioner’s sugar

Directions

  1. Cream together the butter, sugar and grated rinds until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and beat well.
  3. Sift together the flour and salt in a separate bowl and add to the creamed mixture. Chill for at least an hour.
  4. Sprinkle a board generously with confectioner’s sugar and roll out the dough to a thickness of ¼ inch (5 mm). Cut into strips about 4 inches x ½ inch (10 cm x 1 cm).
  5. Put on an ungreased cookie sheet joining the ends to form rings.
  6. Cook in a 400ºF (200ºC) oven for about ten minutes.

Makes about 4 dozen rings.
