Holiday Recipes: Date Roll

published by Katie Rains on Oct 18, 2010

Need something to satisfy a sweet tooth or some more finger food at your holiday party? This recipe will do the trick!

Date Roll is always a tradition in my family around the holidays. It’s easy to make and perfect for the sweet tooth. It’s not really a recipe that can be done with the kids, so it’s best to make when they are out of the kitchen.

Ingredients:

½ cup sugar

1 bag powdered sugar

1 cup dates

½ cup dates

½ cup pet milk

½ cup nuts

Cook in deep saucepan sugar, dates, and milk to soft ball stage. Remove from heat and cool to luke warm. Add chopped nuts and butter. Beat until thick and cold. Generously sprinkle powdered sugar onto board. Turn mixture onto board, knead until smooth. Roll into long roll, refrigerate.

Once it is stiff (about 3-4 hours in the fridge), slice roll into bite size pieces. You can serve this with ice cream, cake and other desserts or just put out for finger food at your holiday dinner party. Enjoy and happy cooking!!
