Homemade Mango Ice Cream

published by avissado on May 20, 2012

This recipe of Homemade Mango Ice Cream has been passed on to me by my mother. As kids we would often make a lot of it during the summer holidays which coincided with the mango season in Goa.

This Homemade Mango Ice Cream is really quite a simple straightforward recipe. And if you happen to own an electric ice-cream maker it sure is a breeze! You’ll have a yummy, creamy, fruity dessert in 30 minutes or less.

Homemade Mango Ice Cream Recipe:

Ingredients:

Pureed pulp of 4 to 6 ripe mangoes

200 ml full fat fresh cream

200 ml whole milk(cold)

2 tablespoons ground sugar(you might want to add more if you like your ice-cream sweeter)

Method:

Put all of the above ingredients into the electric  ice-cream maker and in half an hour your your ice-cream will be ready to eat. Now if you don’t have an electric  ice-cream maker then blend together all of the ice-cream ingredients, that are listed above, in an electric blender for a few minutes. Pour the contents into a bowl, cover and then place in freezer to set.

Tip: For creamier ice-cream. After the ice-cream has set(or almost set) take it out of the freezer and whip it till it is light and creamy again. Then keep to reset in freezer. Repeat two or three times. But, as kids, our ice-cream would get over by the first or second round of whipping and setting.

If not using an electric ice-cream maker the ice-cream tends to be a little icy but tastes divine!

Looks great. I’ll have to adjust the volume to use my ice cream maker, but I’ll make this recipe this week.

I can imagine it would taste divine. I am already hungry for it. We do not have an ice cream maker, but we’ll make it the other way. I have to have this!

Yesterday in Atlanta it was 35 C, mangoes were piled high in the grocery, and the kids were out of school. I made this recipe, and we enjoyed it during the brief, intense afternoon rain. This recipe makes what Americans call sherbet. Double or triple the sugar for American tastes.

Mango is great, I think Mango ice cream is my most favorite. There is a Thai coconut ice cream here that is unbelievable, hands down one of the best there is.
