In the Kitchen: Homemade Ice Cream
A genuine way to make ice cream in a short period of time.
Bored of making fruit skewers? Tired of spending a fortune on ice cream at the supermarket? Well now you can make your own! Using simple ingredients, you can easily whip up some ice cream for you to savour.
Ingredients and utensils/materials needed:
- Ice cubes (20)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1-2 tbs brown sugar
- Cocoa, vanilla essence or blended fruit
- 1 small-medium sized plastic bag (ziplock)
- 1 medium-large sized plastic bag
- Thick cloth(s)
Method:
- Place all the ice into the large bag.
- Add milk, brown sugar and vanilla essence, cocoa or blended fruit into the small ziplock bag and place ziplock bag into large back.
- Tie up large bag if needed and wrap bottom in cloth.
- Shake the bag for approximately 10 minutes or longer; after a while you should have a melted mixture left in the small bag when you unwrap the bags.
- Place the small bag into the freezer for 30 minutes to 1 hour, refreezing the ice cream.
- Take out the bag from the freezer and scoop out the contents into a bowl. Enjoy!
This recipe makes approximately 1 scoop of ice cream. If you would like to make more than 1 scoop at a time, double or triple the recipe. Don’t do more than three times the recipe as this could cause problems such as bursting of the bag and/or tired and aching arms (from shaking excess ice, which would weight 6-7kg).
