Perfect Pears

Pears in Claret – served with cream of ice cream.
A delicious, quick & easy dessert that can be frozen for another day.


INGREDIENTS

6 large buerre bos pears
3 cups water
1.5 cups sugar
3 cinnamon sticks
1.5 cups claret (or good quality red)

METHOD

-Peel pears and leave them whole.
-Mix sugar and water and bring to the boil to make a syrup.
-When the syrup is boiling add the pears and cinnamon, reduce the heat and cook pears until tender and the liquid is reduced to 1.5 cups.
-Add an equal amount of claret.
-Leave in refrigerator for 24 hours.
-Serve with cream or ice cream.
