Roll Your Way to Homemade Ice Cream
Homemade ice cream in a can.
Ingredients
- 1 pint half and half
- 1/3 c. granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- dash of salt
- large 3 pound coffee can, empty and rinsed, with plastic lid
- small 1 pound coffee can, empty and rinsed, with plastic lid
Method
In a medium bowl mix half&half, sugar and vanilla. Pour ice cream mixture into small can and cover with its lead. Duct tape lid shut. Put smaller can inside larger can. Pack ice into larger can around small can and layer with salt. Use duct tape to seal larger can. Have the kids face each other and roll the can back and forth. After about 10 minutes take the smaller can out and check the ice cream. Scrape the sides of the smaller can and stir the ice cream. Reseal the smaller can. Dump out the melted ice. Replace the smaller can inside the larger one and replace ice and salt in larger can. Seal with duct tape again. Roll another 10 minutes or so.
Try flavoring your ice cream with a few tablespoons of pudding. Mix it in with the other ingredients.
Stir in chocolate chips or fruit after stirring.
This recipe makes 1 pint of ice cream. If you have more people or kids, you will need to double or triple the recipe.
