Coconut Pie

3/4 cup sugar
pinch salt
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup water
Cook, stirring constantly, until thick clear paste. Beat egg whites (2) stiff–add above mixture to this, white hot–beat 3 or 4 minutes. Add:
1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
Chill. Bake pie shell. Bake and cool. Add filling to pie shell and chill about 3 hours. Put coconut on top, then whipping cream and toasted coconut on top of cream.
