Mummu’s Award Winning Apple Pie
Our Old Family Recipe.
Made With Mcintosh Apples.
Fall is the time for pie making at our house and I use Mcintosh apples, you can use other kinds but this is my favorite.
You will need about ten apples peeled and sliced very thin. I slice it leaving the core and then just tossing the cor and peel. But most would probably core and peel and use a cutting board I just slice it into a bowl that has cold water and salt so they slice don’t turn brown.
You will need:
Ten apples peeled then sliced,
1/3 cup of brown sugar,
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg.
Prepare pastry dough to line a 9 inch pie plate.
put a few dot of butter and mix the apples with the spice and sugar after draining and place in the pie shell, evenly with a slightly higher amout in the middle.
Roll out dough for top crust and slash the top or make a open design or lattice. Trim and flute the edges.
Brush on a mixture of egg and water for a nice brown colour
Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 45 mins or until steam is coming from the vent and the crust is brown.
I serve with vanilla ice-cream (ala mode)
My Pie Crust
3 cups of pastry flour
1 cup of lard
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg yolk
splash of vinegar
4-5 tablespoons of ice water
cut flour and lard together
mix in other ingredients
make to pastry balls
and roll out on awaxpaper and floured surface.
(you can use prepared store bought pie crust)

this sounds delicious! My momn has a pie that is apple that everybody adores. But I think I am going to have her make this for me, not my sister as she will get upset if my mom changes the recipe. EVERY holiday my mom has to make her apple pie for my sister! But I want yours! My mom usually uses green apples.

Looks and sounds great….. think I might just try this recipe out. We just finished picking the apples last week. They are small this year but very tasty.

A perfect one to try since apple is a common commodity in our local fruit stores.
