Recipe for Christmas Shortbread

Ingredients
- 4oz caster sugar
- 8oz butter
- 12oz plain flour (sifted)

A pinch of salt
To Decorate
- 2oz icing sugar
- gold or silver balls
- glace cherries

angelica
Method
- Put the sugar and the butter together in a large bowl and beat until combined
- Sift in the flour and the salt then work together to form a soft dough like mixture
- Turn out onto a lighly floured surface
- Knead gently for a few moments until its lovely and smooth, but avoid over handling
- Leave to chill in the fridge for 10 – 15 mins
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured work surface and cut out your festive shapes with christmas cutters
- Place them onto a light greased baking tray
- Preheat the oven on gas mark 4, 180oC, 350oF, and bake the biscuites for 10 – 15 minutes until they are golden brown
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool, if you don’t have a wire rack leave them on the baking tray for 10 minutes to cool
- To make the icing sugar mix with a little water until you get the consistency you want then spread over each biscuit
- Finally use your gold or silver balls to decorate along with your cherries and angelica, then place in the fridge to set.
